The Perfect Prom? | Class of 2014

It's that time of year again, everyone is getting ready for their year 11 prom in the UK, so I thought that I would go back in time to my prom & share the excitement of finding a dress, getting your makeup done, to having all eyes on you.

My prom was on the 9th of May 2014, just before my exams, although I was excited, I kind of felt that it was wrong to celebrate before I actually took my exams, I mean it's alright having a good time before hand, but shouldn't we all have been revising?
I thought it would have been better to have the prom after so then we had something to look forward to after working hard revising and all that. But I guess my high school didn't think like that.

You're probably all wondering why I still have my invite & my name card, I don't know really maybe I was thinking about the future & imagining blogging about it - lol - it was probably just for the sake of keeping really, I think I'm probably the only one that did.

I didn't really start looking for a dress until like a month before the prom I didn't really see the rush for a dress, there was going to be plenty about so I didn't really see fit to go out months early like most other girls did. My original choice of dress was a Sherri hill short dress, they're probably the most popular prom dresses in the UK, but I didn't really want my mum exceeding a budget, going all out and blowing £400 on a dress I'm going to wear one night, so girls out there thinking of going and blowing ££££ on a dress this year, don't. Because my prom dress has been sat in the wardrobe for a whole year, yours will probably do the same, my dress is probably super happy that I got it out to do this blog.

When my Sherri Hill idea went out the window my mum brought to my attention a brand called Chi Chi London, I'd never heard of the brand but as my mum is a major twitter user always entering competitions, she knew about them & followed them.

Chi Chi London is a leading retailer of ladies fashion, specialising is cocktail, prom and evening dresses. They are dedicated to bringing the finest catwalk fashion to the high street at affordable prices. It is their belief that looking good and feeling good go hand in hand. There dresses will make you stand out in any crowd, they do their utmost to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved in all aspects of the brand. The Chi Chi London brand was created in London 25 years ago and has now grown into a recognised worldwide brand chosen by many such as myself. They manufacture the finest quality products at affordable prices for everyone. Their dedicated team of bright and clearly talented designers aim to push fashion whilst maintaining the main stream. I couldn't recommend them anymore if I tried.

The dress I chose was called the 'Alicia Dress' it is a floral lace one shoulder skater dress, it has detail on the bodice of the dress with diamantes and lace covering the top half and the strap, it is also fully lined & has a padded bust for support and an elasticated back for better fit.  It was around £54.00 when I bought it. I cannot fault this dress in any shape or form, it is absolutely perfect for any formal occasion, it's not too long

My shoes I absolutely love my shoes, I'm not sure where I got these from but I know that they're super sparkly, I would imagine the sparkles are still in this year they generally offer a vast array of different colour shoes with the glitter and the diamantes. It's always awkward when someone has the same shoes as you - thankfully for me that didn't happen!

I absolutely loved the dress, I felt really beautiful, my makeup was done by a lovely friend of my mums, but I have a few ideas for makeup products that I would have used to accommodate the style of my dress if I hadn't of had my mums friend to do it for me. Just pale pinks and browns for eyeshadow, a medium coverage foundation, I'd have used shimmer powder and just a bit of the Mac lipstick in the shade 'Pervette' I'd have wore some eyelashes probably by Mac with some liquid liner & of course i'd have had my eyebrows done, shaped and would have used an eyebrow pencil.

My hair was done by my lovely hairdresser who has known me for years and done my hair for as long as I can remember. I had a look online for some ideas of what to do my hair like and I spotted a bow, of course she worked her magic and there you go...

I got loads of compliments that night!

My nails were done by another lovely friend of mine and my mums, if you've seen my instagram (link is on the right of this page) you will see that she still does my nails, I absolutely loved my prom nails, she always does a great job! In case you're wondering these are acrylic with the glitter pigment and gel top coat, finished with a bow on the top.

As far as the night goes, they had professional photographers there, I had a couple of photos doing with a few old friends, they offered a 3 course meal I don't think people were very interested in eating, as there was a disco with a DJ, people were forever requesting songs, constant dancing, the amount of girls that shrank due to taking their heels off was immense, the room grew about a foot, I still feel quite proud that I didn't take off my shoes until my mum picked me up - Go girl!

My advise to people going to a prom is, don't go spend loads of money on a dress you're going to wear one night, because I can assure the dress you wear will be in the back of your wardrobe this time next year.

So...
I wish you all the best of luck in all your exams & in whatever you choose to study at post 16 or college, enjoy the break in the summer, have fun & don't be nervous about your results in august, just try your best.

 Thanks for reading
Love From
